I've been boonedocking in the Dome Rock Rd. area for about 10 days now. The closest camper is about 100 yards away and I can see maybe 25 others in the area. So far I have used 6 gallons of gas for the generator, 14 gallons of propane for heat and less then 30 gallons of water.
I could have used less fuel for the generator but I enjoy watching TV in the evening. My TV and satellite receiver draws about 170 watts (13 amps @ 12.8v). It is on a couple hours in the morning and 3 or 4 hours at night which means I use up about 75 Ah in a day just for TV. I do have 225 watts of solar panels mounted flat on the roof but at this time of year I would be surprised if they put out 25% of that. To make up for it I run the generator about 3 hours in the morning and a couple hours in the evening. The 1.6 gallon fuel tank on the Yamaha 2400 generator will last me two days on this schedule.
My 5th wheel has a 31 gallon fresh water tank, a 30 gallon gray water tank and a 30 gallon black water tank. After 10 days the water level gauge shows I still have about 10 gallons of fresh water left. The waste tank level meters don't work but since I have only used about 20 gallons of fresh water plus 5 gallons of drinking water, they are far from being full. I attribute the low usage of water to the Oxygenics shower head I installed. I have measured and I use less then 1 1/2 gallons of water when showering and this is not a "navy shower".
I have noticed over the past two days that the activity in Quartzsite is picking up as it gets closer to the RV show. I drove out to the La Posa North and West camping areas and they are a lot fuller then just a couple of days ago. Because of this I am planning on moving tomorrow. I came out to Q to experience the area, boondocking in the desert and the "circus" atmosphere of the RV show. I've experienced boondocking with very few people around, it's now time to jump in and join the circus!
So I think I will move to the La Posa West BLM area near where the big tent will be setup. There are still a number of fairly open spaces available that is only a short distance for the action, so might as well head over there, stake out spot and see if I can spread things out enough to keep someone from parking only a few feet away.
