One of the problems most RVers have is where to store the sewer drain hose... more lovingly called the Stinky Slinky. As you can imagine, no matter how well you rinse it out after use, you always are aware that there could be some undesirable contents still clinging to the inside of the tube. I used to store it in the basement of my 5th wheel trailer and even though I would rinse it out well and have end caps for the tube there was always the fear it would develop a leak. Plus it took up valuable space in the basement.
I got the following idea from a member of the RV Net forums and modified it a bit for my own use. The idea is to mount it in a tube under the trailer or on the rear bumper. What is done is take a 5" PVC fence post cover mounted on the trailer and use a PVC gutter drain as an insert to hold the sticky slinky.
I went down to the local Menards hardware store and purchased an 8' long 5" square PVC fence post cover, two end caps, an 8' long PVC gutter and a couple foot piece of wood dowel rod. Since it was not easy to get to the frame of my trailer due to the underbelly cover and side trim I decided to mount it on the rear bumper.
I used plumber's strapping to attach the 5" square PVC fence post cover to the bumper then attached one end cap to the fence post cover using a couple of screws. I cut a couple of inches off of the PVC gutter to give it a few inches of slack inside of the tube. I then took the my slinky accessories and laid them in the gutter to figure out where I wanted to put the dowel dividers. Once I figured that out I cut the dowels and screwed them to the gutter.
To fasten the end that would need to be removable I first drilled a hole in a corner to attach a tie-wrap tether so it would not be lost and then just drilled a hole in the top of the cap through the tube and in the bottom so I could insert a 6" bolt to hold it in place.
For a total of less then $40 I now have a place to store my sewer hose and not have to worry about it leaking or taking up space in my basement.
