Yesterday I took a trip to the Yuma Proving Grounds. YPG is a 1300 square mile area of the desert that the Army uses as testing grounds for weapons and other equipment. At the entrance to the facility is a large gun and a short drive into the area is a large display of tanks, missiles and other vehicles.

While driving down Hyw95 to the Yuma Proving Grounds I could see some tracked vehicles running around the desert and even heard a boom or two.

If you follow the road that leads to the entrance it takes you to Imperial Dam. I decided to have a look as I heard there was a lot of camping area and sure enough, once you got back closer to the dam you could see RVs camped all over the place. This is all BLM land were the camping is free for 14 days.

Today I moved from the BLM land next to the VFW north of Yuma to a real campsite. I spend a few days looking around for a place to stay for a week and settled on Caravan Oasis RV Resort. So far it appears to be a decent place where they don't pack you in too tight and the rates aren't real high. Over the next week I plan on hitting a few of the local sights in Yuma, go to the Cocopah Casino and head over to Mexico.

Passport America is having a rally in a week so I place on doing that. Passport America is a discount campground service that you can join and get 50% off of site rates. In most cases with only a few nights stay you can save enough to pay for the membership. The rally will have some activities, a couple meals every day and a few seminars. Never been to a rally so it should be interesting.

After that is done not sure what my plans are after that. I may stick around Yuma for another week or may start wondering back East. There are a number of places I want to stop and see on the way back so I suspect it'll take me 2 or 3 weeks once I head back. I'll see how I feel when the time comes.
