I took a drive today to Tombstone. It is only a 30 minute drive from Kartchner Caverns State Park. Tombstone has a lot of history and lore and sounded like an interesting place to visit. The main street is blocked off to vehicle traffic and is maintained to look like the it might have in in the late 1800s. One of the main attractions is the courthouse that has been turned into a museum. Inside you can find a lot of information about the people that occupied the area plus plenty of artifacts.
The rest of the town was a bit of a disappointment. All of the shops were nothing more then a few restaurants and tourist shops hawking jewelry, Indian wares and clothes. Of course I could have paid to watch the OK Corral shootout or ride the stagecoach. In my opinion they have missed to opportunity to really show off the history of Tombstone with recreations of saloons, hotels, jails and other period features.
While it was interesting I have no desire to ever stop back there again. Too bad, it could be such a fun place to visit.
