In my previous post I showed my install of the Air Lift Air Bag Suspension Upgrade. With that system you can run air lines so you can use a portable compressor or sir tank to fill the shocks. That is all well and good but that mean you have to carry a compressor with you and you can not change the air pressure in the bags when on the road.

Air Lift makes a number of on-board air compressor systems that allow you to change the air pressure in the bags from the cab of your truck. The system I chose to install was the WirelessONE system. I picked this system because it was fairly inexpensive and was super easy to install because you control the air pressure with a wireless remote fob. This means no wires or air lines needs to be run to an under dash control panel.

The package includes the compressor, a control valve, remote fob and relay. I had already scoped out a place to mount the items on the frame of the truck but once I opened the package there was a separate tech sheet that warned about avoiding getting moisture in the compressor. While it appears the compressor can withstand some moisture I just didn't want to take a chance of compressor failure so I looked for a place inside the truck to mount everything.

WirelessONE installMy Dodge RAM has storage areas under the rear seats. I've never used this area for storage so I figured it would be an ideal place for the compressor, control valve and relay. The install was pretty straight forward. I mounted the compressor, valve and relay using the included self-drilling screws. I then drilled a 1" hole in the sidewall of the storage area and ran the air line and hot wire through that hole. The air line ran back to a T inserted into the air bag air line. The hot wire ran up to the fuse box in the engine compartment.

To protect the air line and wiring from chafing on the hole in the floor pan I put a piece of fuel line around them and inserted a rubber body plug in the 1" hole for an extra bit of protection. The exposed metal edges of the hole would have to wear through both the rubber plug and the thick wall fuel line to damage the air line and wiring. I'll check it once in awhile to make sure there are no problems.

WirelessONE remote fobYou use the small remote fob to control the air pressure in the bags. The fob is about the size of a garage opener remote and it has a visor clip on the back so it is always handy. You can manually change the pressure using the up and down arrows. You can also store 3 presets using the single/double dot buttons. I have presets for empty load setting of 10 PSI and one for my loaded setting of 60 psi.

The fob is easy to use and has worked flawlessly. Press the button and a couple seconds later you hear the compressor kick on to increase the pressure. When you lower the pressure you can hear the air being released through the control valve. I thought that maybe having the compressor in the truck cab would be objectionable but it is actually reassuring to hear it as you know the system is working.

The only downside to the WirelessONE Compressor System is that it controls both bags at once. It does not control each bag separately. So far that has not been an issue for me. I enjoyed the easy install and saving almost $200 over the other compressor systems. I would recommend this system to anyone looking for an easy to install and inexpensive air bag control system.
