Today I had to put my buddy of 17 years to sleep. I have put together a few photos of him here. He had been getting worse over the past week and this morning he was not able to walk. I knew it was time to let him go. I took him to the local 24 hour vet, gave him a hug, said my good bys and the vet did the injection. Only took about 30 seconds before he relaxed and was gone.
I'll miss you buddy. We've had a lot of great adventures and you'll be missed this winter when I head to Florida. Below are a few memories.
His younger days on D Ave. (from 1997)

Running the beach on Mustang Island.

Checking out the dunes at White Sands, NM.

Taking a walk in the campground in Mission, TX.

Relaxing in the shade in the campground in Mission, TX.

Hey, a new campground near Big Bend National Park.

So sorry about your buddy. Last year we had to have one of our dogs put to sleep and I cried off and on for several days. We had inherited her from our son’s girlfriend, and the dog, Summer, was already about 14 yrs old when we got her. She was very shy, and for some reason got quite attached to me. She made sure to stay close by when I was home and could not tolerate much going on without shaking. We had her a year, and when we took her to the vet when we first got her, the vet remarked that she may not last another year. When she began losing weight and sometimes just falling over, and could not tolerate her food, the vet said it was time. It is hard, even when you know you are doing the best for your friend.
Thank you for the kind words. Yes, even though we know it is best, it’s still hard. I feel lucky that I was able to have him around for 17 years.
